The Joy of the Wait: My Libby Obsession and the Books I’m Counting Down For
I can clearly remember making fun of my best friend for waiting weeks—sometimes months—for a book to become available on Libby. “Just buy it,” I said, shaking my head like I was above the concept of delayed gratification. “I could never do that.”
Famous last words, right?
One day, on a whim, I downloaded Libby, and OMG—instant obsession. Suddenly, I got it. The thrill of browsing the library’s digital catalog, adding books to my holds list, and waiting (not-so-patiently) for my turn is now one of my absolute favorite parts of reading. I’ve even grown to love the built-in deadlines. Knowing that I only have a certain number of days to finish a book keeps me on track—and let’s be real, there’s something incredibly satisfying about finishing a book just in time.
So, today, I thought I’d share a peek at my current Libby holds list—aka my version of Christmas morning excitement. These are the books I’m counting down the days for, and let me tell you, this list is full of thrillers, twists, and heartfelt reads I cannot wait to dive into.
The Books I’m Most Excited to Get Off My Holds List
The Stand by Stephen King
An apocalyptic tale of good versus evil that’s basically the classic when it comes to epic dystopian horror. I’ve heard so much about the sprawling cast of characters and terrifying scenarios, and I’m ready to finally tackle this behemoth of a book. Plus, it’s Stephen King at his best—how could I not?
Pet Sematary by Stephen King
Another King masterpiece I’m equally excited (and terrified) to dive into. The idea of exploring grief and loss through this haunting lens gives me chills already. Am I ready for the nightmare fuel? Absolutely.
The Change by Kirsten Miller
A feminist revenge thriller meets magical realism? Say no more! I’ve been dying to read about this group of women who reclaim their power—and a little justice—later in life. I’ve heard it’s empowering, dark, and so satisfying.
The ABC Murders by Agatha Christie
Agatha Christie never disappoints, and this murder mystery promises to keep me guessing until the end. A serial killer working through the alphabet? Twisted and brilliant.
And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie
Another Christie classic, and one of her most famous works. A group of strangers invited to a remote island, each harboring dark secrets? The suspense is practically palpable already.
Havoc by Christopher Bollen
A thriller set in a wealthy Hamptons enclave filled with secrets and danger? Sign me up. This one has been on my radar for a while, and I’m so curious to see how it delivers.
Pines by Blake Crouch
I’m such a fan of Blake Crouch’s mind-bending storytelling (Dark Matter was amazing), so I’ve been itching to dive into this one. A secretive small town with eerie vibes and unanswered questions? Yes, please.
Funny Story by Emily Henry
Okay, I’ll read anything Emily Henry writes. I don’t even need to know what it’s about (though this sounds like a fresh take on her witty and heartfelt style). Her books always have that perfect mix of humor, charm, and emotional depth.
First Lie Wins by Ashley Elston
A twisty psychological thriller with unreliable narrators? Yes. I’ve heard this is full of shocking twists, and I’m ready to be kept on the edge of my seat.
The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides
Everyone raves about this one, and I’m finally hopping on the bandwagon. A psychological thriller about a woman who stops speaking after committing a murder and the therapist determined to uncover her secrets? I’m already hooked.
The One by John Marrs
A world where a DNA test can find your soulmate...but with dark consequences? This premise is so unique and intriguing, and I can’t wait to see where it goes.
All the Colors of the Dark by Christa Whitaker
A gripping thriller with plenty of suspense, this one promises a story filled with twists, secrets, and complicated characters. It’s one of those books that’s been quietly hyped, and I’m excited to discover what it’s all about.
The Favorites by Layne Fargo
A dark, suspenseful story about secrets and toxic friendships. Layne Fargo has a way of digging into the messy side of human relationships, and I’m here for all the drama.
The Only One Left by Riley Sager
A gothic-inspired thriller set in an old mansion with a twisty murder mystery? Riley Sager knows how to bring the suspense, and this is high on my must-read list.
Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin
I’ve heard this is a beautiful story about creativity, friendship, and ambition that spans decades. It’s a total shift from my usual thrillers, but I think this one is going to hit me right in the feels.
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid
At this point, this book feels like a must-read rite of passage. A glamorous old-Hollywood star revealing the secrets of her seven husbands? The hype is real, and I’m ready for it.
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
A heart-wrenching WWII story about two sisters navigating love, survival, and resistance during the war. I’m already preparing myself for tears.
Society of Lies by Lauren Ling Brown
A dark exploration of secrets and betrayals within an elite circle. I don’t know much about this one yet, but the premise has me intrigued!
Carrie Soto Is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid
A retired tennis star coming back for one last shot at glory? TJR writes such compelling, layered characters, and I can’t wait to see Carrie’s journey.
The Wedding People by Alison Espach
Weddings, secrets, and drama—this book promises to be a page-turner. It’s already giving me “juicy summer read” vibes, even though it’s definitely not summer.
The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah
A gripping story about survival and resilience set in the Alaskan wilderness. I’ve been hearing it’s an emotional gut-punch in the best way possible.
The Lake of Lost Girls by Katherine Greene
Missing girls, eerie small-town vibes, and dark secrets? This one is totally my kind of thriller.
Fairy Tale by Stephen King
A recent King release that dives into the fantastical and eerie—this sounds like a wild, imaginative ride I can’t wait to experience.
How’s this? It feels cleaner and easier to read without the numbers!
